Most powerful of all Egyptian goddesses. She was the goddess of funeral rites. She was the wife of Osiris and mother of Horus, and was also known as the "giver of life." She was represented in the night sky by Sirius, which shone brightest at the time of the year of the annual Nile floods. Isis was then associated with the bringing of new soil and new crops and food to the people who worshipped her.
